Waiting...
Written @ 12:11 AM
I'm waiting for my mother to get off my laptop from chatting with her sister... How is it that they have so much to talk about and 'bye talk to you soon' actually stretches the conversation by another 30 minutes? Daddy and I just sit here listening to the conversation and watching a muted version of 90210. We're supposed to be used to this, but still... Cge nalang... Lol...

Singing and Despicable Me
Written @ 12:29 AM
Had a fun-filled day yesterday. Went with Tracy and her friend to KBox at Downtown East Ehub to sing, sing, sing! Have to brush up on my hangul reading since most of the kpop songs sadly don’t have romanisation, and I can’t read fast enough to sing along, and I don’t bother with memorizing lyrics. The organization of the songs in the karaoke system was horrible, singers had songs under their name in hangul, then some under their names in chinese characters. They should really hire someone to clean it up for them (aka hire me!).

Singing has deteriorated since my secondary school days, where I would have choir practice twice a week and abstain from all spicy things. Now, I eat curry and chilli and all the rubbish things that harm the voice, not to mention no more vocal exercises except for singing in the shower. Oh well. I shall take advantage of the fact that KBox has the $8 promotion and go as often as possible. Anyone else interested? I’m going to make a list of songs I’m going to sing next time I go.

Anyway, after about 4 hours of singing, Audrey came to meet me and we went to watch Despicable Me!

Which turned out to be the nicest animation I’ve watched so far. While the plot was predictable in general, they used unique characters like Gru, the minions and Dr. Nefarious and humourous scripting which made it interesting for the movie. The protagonist was a person who believed that he was evil, and so schemed to do evil deeds, although those attempts weren’t very successful. In the end, he finds that there is love in him for the three orphans that he adopts as part of his plan to steal the moon (LOL) and eventually settles for being a good father. I will not go on a full-on film analysis, since I just watched it for entertainment’s sake and I wasn’t looking out for anything in particular. But I would rate it FIVE STARS for an animation! It’s a movie that would keep a smile on your face all the way through. Oh, I did a check on the voice actors for the movie, and Julie Andrews is in it! Awesomeness!

I want to watch Eclipse next!

Back on the Super Junior bandwagon
Written @ 7:24 PM

I am a fan of Super Junior. I really like them, I’m just not really an ELF.

A quick background first:

Super Junior was originally a 12-member group that debuted with the single, ‘Twins’, then they promoted ‘Miracle’ off the full-length album that followed their debut. I personally thought that the choreography for ‘Twins’ was impressive and made use of their strength in numbers, something a regular 5-person group would only be able to do with back-up dancers. ‘Miracle’ was cute and since most of them were in their early twenties, I think a lot of girls would fall for their ‘flower boy’ concept. Then came new maknae Kyuhyun and made the group 13 and they had a mini-album ‘U’. I won’t go through the rest of the background. Go read it on Wikipedia. I’ve even hyperlinked the page for you here.

If one looked at the group from a business/marketing point of view (I think), their unique selling points would be that

  1. They were a 12-member group – The members had different strengths and therefore allowing the management to place them in different areas of entertainment. As a group, they sang and danced and guested on variety shows. Individually, or in smaller groups, they could branch out to act, host, DJ or even release individual singles, which seems to be popular these days.
  2. Since there were many members, their personalities and looks were different (and can only be grouped as ‘good-looking, I guess), so they appealed to many different types of fans (from tiny tots to ahjummas) though the main audience would be teenage/adolescent girls.
  3. They had a Chinese member, Han Geng (who is my favourite!), so they could do promotions in China as well. It would be good to note that Han Geng was the first Chinese artiste (and therefore considered a foreigner in South Korea) to debut in Korea. Legal problems with his visa occurred, but were sort of settled later. But this smoothed out the process for other foreign trainees who were set to debut in Korea. So thank Han Geng (and SM) for taking the rap for all the foreign artistes out there!

Okay. Finally the main point. I’m really upset that Super Junior has only 10 members left of the original. Although it’s always been said that some members have less exposure, but with the release of ‘Bonamana’ (which I think is a lame song title. Come on, SM producers, you can easily come up with something better!), I really think that Super Junior has lost a little of its lustre without 13. It feels like something is missing. Though Han Geng seems to be doing pretty well on his own in China, where he won’t feel like an outcast, but honestly, he wouldn’t have the popularity or the ability to do what he is doing now if he didn’t debut with Super Junior. I never really bothered about Kibum, since he is rarely there and easy for me to miss, and I’ve always felt Kangin had a bad boy tendency, but I hope they do come back soon, even Han Geng. *Hopes, wishes, prays*

So I was put off Super Junior for a while, just keeping up with the minimum news and performances. Although Bonamana has a unique sound (Latin? Salsa? Something along those lines), I didn’t really like it. And then they came up with their new song ‘No Other’. And I really like it! For some reason, I’m back on the Super Junior bandwagon! Here is a live performance:

I love the song better than Sorry Sorry and Bonamana! And I love Heechul‘s hair too!

Meanwhile, here is a new girl group from JYP: miss A

They are good, and I don’t know much about them yet but I think most of them are Chinese. They have pretty good voices and dance skills (boy can they split! The only thing I’d split is my pants…). Doesn’t seem like the voices are autotuned, as is common these days, and the song’s not high pitched, so a person with a voice in a lower key can actually sing it without getting a sore throat. However, I have a feeling that something is missing from their performance/song… Any ideas?

Baby time!

My relatives were in town last month and I finally got to meet my baby cousin Katie! Here's a few photos!
That's Katie, and I put the balloon in her hair. She likes wearing sunglasses, and that's my arm... Hehe...

Khris was squatting to take a photo with her, and she decided to do the same but ended up sitting instead. She has the funniest expressions!
This is a nice shot of her with the Marina Bay Sands for a background, though there is a bit of backlight...
And that's Katie's ice cream face, looking satisfied after I gave her my Ben n Jerry's...

freedom
Written @ 11:20 PM
Today was my last day at my job.. One that I've held for about a year... I will still be doing some stuff for them, but I must say the freedom of knowing I'm no longer at anyone's beck and call is suiting me very well... I was having a very bad allergy where my face would break out in humongous zits and I couldn't sleep well.. But all that changed for the better after I tendered my resignation.. Now begins the hunt of something new and better... I'm free to go play now! Karaoke, dinner, movies, shopping... Just give me a holler!

True Blood
Written @ 11:58 AM
I'm going to be free-er soon, but poorer... at least till I get another job, but I don't want to commit till I find out if I managed to squeeze my lazy butt into uni, which I won't be able to find out till some time end of May. Which sucks.

I have been doing some reading, and found a new male celebrity to swoon over. heehee... I've sped through the second season of True Blood, which is based on the second book of The Southern Vampire Mysteries "Living Dead in Dallas", and Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman is HOT HOT HOT! Seriously. I'm not usually into ang moh guys but he made it onto my list of favourites. He looks great in jeans and a tank top, not to mention naked. WOOTS! hahahaha... I think he has buffed up a lot since starring as Meekus in Zoolander, where he looked just tall, skinny and geeky.

True Blood has quite a bit of nudity, violence and gore, so be warned. The Twilight vampires have NOTHING on the True Blood vamps, though I love both book (and TV/movie) series. Sammie, if you're reading this, I suggest you go watch True Blood...

While waiting for the third season of True Blood (which should be out sometime in June, and will be way later when I do get to watch it), and the next episode of House MD (season 6!!), I finished reading book four to six of the available ten books of The Southern Vampire Mysteries. I've read book one to three way before it was even popular. The tenth book is a compilation of the short stories that back up the other nine, and I'm just getting around to that. I really love Eric and Sookie! (I never really liked Bill and thank goodness he's faded into the background.) They have so many funny moments, and Pam is really likeable too, as far as vampires go.

I have a whole lot of other stuff to read, and I'm really taking my time with The Hunger Games trilogy, since the third instalment will only be out in August. I went with my mother to the bookstore the other day and I felt like buying almost everything I saw. I think I'll marry the guy who takes me on a book shopping spree (a shopping spree in general is also welcome, hehe...).

I think it's time to refresh my wishlist. Surprisingly, listing out the stuff you want does help to make yourself aim to get it. I know mine will be filled with book titles for the moment.
